(24.75 x 7") Paper mâché, cardboard, wood and acrylic paint. This piece was inspired by a directional sign, one you might find at a camp. Each of the five elements spin, with opposite sentiments on each side, reflecting the duality of my ever-changing thoughts. The pair of words on the arrows are OPEN/NOPE and FLOW/BLOCK. The pair of opposite words on the heart is FOLLOW/ACHE. The round elements have opposing symbols on each side as well. The upper circle contains two phases of the moon: a crescent and full respectively. The phases of the moon are a good reminder that everything is in a constant state of change. The lower circle has a bull's eye on one side and an inner spiral on the other. Some days I hit the mark and other days I retreat into myself. A mixed media bas-relief sculpture of a human heart. Left intentionally rough, this is reflective of my state of mind at the time of creation. The word FOLLOW covers the surface of this heart. I’ve also incorporated fabric from my grandmother and a few peripheral images and quotes. This piece is designed to remind myself and the viewer to follow our own instincts.
